★ Best Wedding Videographer, Way Up North Awards · Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar · 400+ weddings · Available in Maspalomas and Gran Canaria
Sebastian has been photographing weddings and couples in the Canary Islands for over a decade. His work in Maspalomas focuses on the extraordinary natural light and landscape of the south of Gran Canaria: the golden dunes that shift colour through the day, the lagoon at Charca de Maspalomas, the wide Atlantic horizon at Meloneras, and the lighthouse at Faro de Maspalomas. These are locations that do the heavy lifting for a photographer willing to work with them rather than against them.
His approach is documentary and unhurried. He does not pose couples into shapes. He watches, moves quietly, and waits for the moments that actually happened.

What makes Maspalomas extraordinary for photography
Most photographers describe Maspalomas as beautiful. That is accurate but incomplete.
What makes Maspalomas genuinely unusual is the combination of a desert landscape and an Atlantic coastline within a few hundred metres of each other. The dunes absorb and reflect light in ways that change minute by minute. In the early morning they are cool and violet. At golden hour they turn amber, then deep orange, then a burnt copper that has no equivalent anywhere else Sebastian has photographed.
The Charca de Maspalomas, the nature reserve lagoon behind the dunes, adds water, palms, and birdlife to that palette. The contrast between the sand and the water creates natural compositions that require almost no direction. Couples standing at the edge of the lagoon with the dunes behind them and the ocean beyond are, simply, in a remarkable frame.
The beach at Maspalomas stretches far enough that even in high season you can find pockets of near-solitude a short walk from the main resort area. And the lighthouse district, Faro de Maspalomas, has the low whitewashed architecture and strong shadows of a place built to be photographed.
All of this requires timing. The dunes at midday in summer are bright, flat, and hot. The same dunes ninety minutes before sunset are some of the most cinematic ground in Europe. Sebastian plans every shoot around the light, not the other way around.

About Sebastian Nandryka
Sebastian Nandryka is the founder of SuperWeddings, an award-winning wedding photographer and videographer based in Barcelona. He has been documenting weddings and couples sessions in Spain and the Canary Islands for over a decade, with a focus on natural storytelling and the specific quality of light in each location he shoots.
His work has been featured in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. He was awarded Best Wedding Videographer at the Way Up North Awards. His short film “Crop Season” received international festival recognition including Best Short Film in Los Angeles. He has documented more than 400 weddings across Spain, Europe, and internationally.
He has shot in Maspalomas in every season and at every time of day. He knows where the light lands at four in the afternoon in December and where the crowds are thinnest in August. That knowledge is part of what a couple is hiring when they book him for a session in the dunes.
Why the dunes require a photographer who has actually worked there
Photographing in the Maspalomas dunes is not technically difficult. Getting there is not difficult. But producing photographs that do justice to the place requires specific knowledge that only comes from having shot there repeatedly.
The dunes shift. Access routes change with the sand. The most photographed angle, from the top of the main dune looking back toward the ocean, produces images that are handsome but familiar. Sebastian looks for the edges of the dune field where the sand meets the scrubland, the north face of dunes that hold shadow well into the afternoon, the moments when a couple crests a ridge and the ocean appears behind them without warning.
He also plans around the permit situation. Maspalomas falls within a protected natural reserve. Commercial photography in the reserve technically requires a permit from the regional government of Gran Canaria. Sebastian handles this paperwork for every shoot within the protected zone so couples do not have to navigate it themselves.
Sebastian’s work just stood out. From his cinematography and storytelling to the amazing music, we knew we had to reach out to him. We are incredibly lucky to have worked with him. The whole family has watched the wedding film over and over again, still in awe.

Best locations for a photoshoot in Maspalomas
The Maspalomas Dunes are the obvious choice and the right one for most couples. The scale of the dune field, over four hundred hectares of protected landscape, means that even at peak season it absorbs visitors and leaves stretches of untouched sand available to a photographer who knows where to look. Best visited in the two hours before sunset.
Charca de Maspalomas is the nature reserve lagoon that separates the dunes from the beach. The palms, the still water, and the dunes in the background create natural depth and contrast that photographs exceptionally well. It is one of Sebastian’s preferred locations for early morning shoots when the light is soft and the birds are active on the water.
Meloneras is the upmarket resort strip south of Maspalomas town. The promenade, the hotel architecture, and the rocky coastline at the end of the bay give a more polished backdrop. It works well for couples who want something more refined alongside a dunes session.
Faro de Maspalomas, the lighthouse area at the very southern tip of Gran Canaria, has strong whitewashed architecture, dramatic shadow lines, and a sense of being at the edge of something. It photographs differently in every season and is particularly striking in winter when the tourist density drops.
Private villa venues across the south of the island, from San Agustín through to Arguineguín, offer controlled environments for ceremonies and receptions with the landscape as backdrop. Sebastian is familiar with the main venue options in this corridor and happy to discuss specific locations.

Maspalomas wedding photography, an honest perspective
Maspalomas has a peculiar quality for a photographer. It is both genuinely spectacular and genuinely overexposed. Every travel photographer who has ever visited the island has photographed the dunes. The iconic shot is so well established that it has almost become a cliché.
What Sebastian tries to do is ignore the canonical version and find the photograph that belongs to the specific couple and the specific light of their specific afternoon. That requires resisting the pull of the obvious composition.
It also requires honesty with clients about timing. A session booked in the middle of the day in high summer will produce competent images. A session booked for golden hour in October or November will produce something genuinely special. Sebastian is always direct about this when couples get in touch, even when it means asking them to adjust their schedule.

Frequently asked questions about Maspalomas wedding photography
Below are the questions couples most commonly ask when planning a shoot or wedding in Maspalomas.
How much does a wedding photographer cost in Maspalomas?
Couples sessions and elopement photography in Maspalomas with SuperWeddings start at €1,500. Full wedding day photography starts at €2,500. Packages covering both photography and videography start at €3,950. Prices vary depending on the length of coverage, the size of the team, and whether video is included. We are happy to discuss options for smaller sessions and elopements.
What are the best locations for photos in Maspalomas?
The Maspalomas Dunes are the most iconic and versatile location, best visited in the two hours before sunset. Other strong options include the Charca de Maspalomas lagoon for early morning shoots, the Meloneras promenade for a more refined backdrop, and the lighthouse area at Faro de Maspalomas. The best choice depends on the time of day, the season, and the mood the couple is looking for.
Do you need a permit to shoot in the Maspalomas dunes?
Commercial photography within the protected natural reserve of Maspalomas technically requires a permit from the regional government of Gran Canaria. Sebastian handles this for every professional shoot within the protected zone. Couples do not need to arrange it themselves.
What time of day is best for photos in the Maspalomas dunes?
The two hours before sunset produce the best light in the dunes by a significant margin. The sand turns from pale gold to deep amber and the shadows grow long enough to create natural depth and drama. Early morning is the second best option, particularly for the Charca lagoon area where the light is soft and the bird activity adds interest to the frames.
Is Maspalomas good for an elopement?
Yes, genuinely. The dunes and the lagoon area are among the most atmospheric elopement backdrops in Europe. A small ceremony at golden hour in the dunes with a close group of witnesses is something Sebastian has photographed multiple times. The scale and the light do work that no venue decoration can replicate.
Can you travel to Gran Canaria from Barcelona?
Yes. Sebastian travels from Barcelona for sessions, elopements, and weddings across Gran Canaria. Travel and accommodation are included in all packages. He covers the full island including Las Palmas in the north and all the resort towns and rural fincas across the south and centre.
Do you offer both photography and video in Maspalomas?
Yes. SuperWeddings offers combined photo and video coverage under one creative direction. For couples who want both, this is the most coherent option: one briefing, one style, one team across the day. Combined packages start at €3,950.
